Every published plan, in one table

Grid Rates is a free, ad-free, affiliate-free comparison of every electricity and gas plan published in Australia. Search a suburb and compare without creating an account.

Why it's a table

Energy plans are a spreadsheet problem. You want the whole market at once, sorted by the column you care about, with your own usage figures behind the estimates.

So that is what this is. Every plan for your suburb in one table, each rate in its own column, each retailer condition a filter with a count beside it. Type your usage in or pull it off a bill and the estimates are yours rather than a standard household's.

"Every plan" means every market offer and every standing offer retailers are required to publish, for every state and territory with retail competition.

What the table shows

Rates

Supply charge, peak, shoulder, off-peak, controlled load, demand, solar feed-in and every gas tier, each in its own column. No averaging, no rounding.

Conditions

Conditional discounts, pay-on-time terms, direct-debit-only billing, sign-up credits, exit fees, lock-in contracts, bundle-only deals, GreenPower add-ons, wholesale pass-through and controlled-load rates. Each is a filter with a count. Switch one off and the table redraws.

Your own numbers

Enter your usage, or upload a bill and have it read, and every row carries an annual estimate at your figure. Pick your current plan and a "vs current" column shows the difference. Click a row for full rates and 24 months of price history. Withdrawn plans keep their history.

Logging in is optional

An account saves your settings and bill details so they follow you between devices. There is no login prompt on the home page or the compare table. Compare anonymously and nothing is stored on our servers: your settings live in the URL and in your browser.

We ask for your email address in one place. If you upload a bill we can't read, you can leave an address to hear when that format is supported. It is used for that message and nothing else.

Read the guide The guide covers logging in, bill uploads and the terminology.

What it doesn't cover yet

Western Australia and the Northern Territory run regulated retail markets with a single government-owned retailer and no competition. There is no published plan data to read there, so they are not shown. Some regional and embedded networks may also be missing.

Networks resolve to a postcode, not an address, so when a postcode straddles two distributors the compare page asks which one your house is on. Government rebates and concession discounts are not applied: every figure is the plan's own published rate. Business plans stop at the small-market threshold, because larger contracts are negotiated individually and never published.

Independent

Grid Rates is Australian and independent: no company, no investors, no commercial relationship with any retailer. A retailer can't pay to move up the table.

Corrections land in the table within a day.
